Skipping

Skipping is a combination of two locomotor movements, a walking step and a hop. It is done by a step and hop one one foot and followed immediately by a step and hop on the opposite foot. Therefore, hopping serves as the the pre-requisite skill for skipping.

During the flight phase, the children will ‘float’ in the air for a brief period of time. Children needs to be able to hop before attempting the skipping movements. Skipping is usually associated to children being happy and is also commonly found in activities such as dance.

As skipping is closely associated to music, you can use rhythm to help kids hop better, like boom(step) – clap (hop).
