FMS Games to improve family bonding time

Are you wondering what to do with your child this weekend?

Would you be interested in activities that can train your child, keep him/her healthy and at the same time, have quality family time together?

Today you will discover 5 simple games for family bonding.

Catching/Tagging

Catching is an all-time favourite game for all kids. Even 12 year olds are still enjoying it.

Catching allows your child to practise running in a fun way. Remember to have proper footwear when you execute this fundamental movement!

So bring your child outdoors and start playing today!

Follow The Leader

‘Follow the leader’ teaches your child to watch you and move.

Model the fundamental movements well and your child will model after you.

If you are unsure what fundamental movements are, check out the article “3 Gifts You Can Give Your Child That Will Last A Lifetime - Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS)”.

Musical Freeze

Musical freeze is a fun game that can be played indoors.

Your child will learn to listen and be still as well as practice fundamental movements.

Play your child’s favourite music and ask them to move around in various fundamental movements.

Train his/her listening skills by getting them to be still when you stop the music.

Another variation could be you encouraging them to perform certain fundamental movements.

Fundamental movement skills require sequential movements that are coordinated.

In order to execute it, the brain must activate neurons to the necessary muscles for the body to perform their skill.

Therefore this will increase the cognitive ability of the child as it requires different response identification from the brain to the muscle.

Great Wall Of China

‘Great wall of china’ is a game where your child stands in your way as he/she attempts to catch you by moving sideways (FMS: sliding).

You can take turns with your child to allow her to practice both running and sliding movements.

Knee Touch

Knee Touch brings out the skill of sliding, hand-eye coordination, and running.

A point is scored each time your knee is touched.

It is a favourite even for 12 year olds! Give this game a shot today!
